Barbican was built upon the rubble of war.
How can one honor those whose homes were bombed and lives were lost?
Create a vibrant community where people come together to live and celebrate the arts. According to the music librarian, Barbican is the largest arts and culture center in Europe - now that is impressive.
Our first day of class began with the commute to Barbican. Our tour of the lending (public) library began and ended with the head librarian. We made our way through the collections, learning about the vital library services to migrant workers, and being wowed by their specialized music collection. It was great to witness the joy and dedication of library staff and their service to their community.
After the tour, we enjoyed tea and cookies with our hosts. It was a lovely way to end our tour at the library. We were guided by the head librarian through the maze of hallways, towards the Museum of London. What we saw was only a piece of the arts and culture center and it was inspiring.
