Spotting Peter Rabbit at Blythe House

Updated: Jul 9, 2019

Our timing was perfect. We were able to view children's literature archives at Blythe House. Originally a post office with deliveries up to 8 times per day, this historic building will soon become luxury apartments and a new facility will house the archival material.

We were introduced into the world of Peter Rabbit. The history of Leslie Linder decoding Beatrix Potter's journals was told to us by author Andrew P. Wiltshire. We were fortunate enough to look at Beatrix Potter's original artwork. For copyright reasons, we were not permitted to take individual photos of items; however, if you are ever able to view these illustrations at an exhibition, I think you would enjoy it. Her sketches are light, simple and playful and the choices of colour for the watercolour artwork was exquisite. Nothing heavy. Only cheerful colours which automatically open up one's imagination into the world of Peter Rabbit.
